A very
special thanks to EVERYONE that came out to my recent Blues Alley Performance
on Thursday, August 12th. to support my show in spite of the rain. It was more
than I could have ever dreamed. Two packed shows and two encore's....very
humbling. Not to mention the special guest appearance by my dear
friend, Producer, Dexter
Wansel. Together on stage we performed several bars of one
of my favorite songs written by he and Co-writer, Cynthia Biggs
titled: If Only You Knew
originally recorded by Ms. Patti
LaBelle, the audience absolutely, loved it! Dexter and I
have worked together now for many, many years and have some very exciting
things happening in the mix on the European Markets. Everyone says that it was
one of my greatest performances ever at Blues Alley....I am humbled, needless to
say, I had a great time. It was truly a wonderful evening. I noticed lots
and lots of new faces in the audience which was extra
nice.
A very
special thanks to the Blues Alley Staff. Also, to The Band (Perk Jacobs,
Norris Berry , Tony Harrod, Benjie Porecki) and of course my Music Director,
James T. Brown (aka) JB, you guys did an awesome job. Not to
forget, WHUR Radio Host. Tony
Richards for such a beautiful introduction and Cristina Page
for the great cup cakes (smile). Tonja Johnson for doing a great job
with my makeup. To Myrtle
Goodwin for selling so many of my new Mix 2010 CD's and to
everyone who purchased a copy. Also to my friends, Vivian Staples and Terri Harrison for being so
supportive over the years. To my Photographer, Gerald Barnes for capturing
everything. Mel
Canady for escorting me to the stage and Sterling Hollis for video taping the

Dexter Wansel at
Bules Alley
Marilyn
Ashford-Brown has
been inspired over
the years by the
music of the late,
Phyllis
Hyman. Very
few know her story
and connection to
the legend. Marilyn
once shared the
stage with Ms. Hyman
along with Pieces
of A Dream. You
Know How To Love
Me is from Marilyn's
forthcoming CD,
which will be devoted
to some of the greatest
recordings of Ms.
Hyman's career.
Can
You Handle It was
significant to Marilyn's
professional recording
career. It was originally
recorded by Marilyn's
former group Sasss,
the lead vocal was
later replaced by
the Late, Sharon
Redd and went on
to become a huge
hit. During 1980,
Sasss had just completed
recording the track
and was heading
to the U.K. with
Bobby
Thurston
for a tour to promote
You've Got What
It Takes, also a
huge hit. Marilyn
would go on to work
with Producers,
Dexter
Wansel and
Al
Johnson.
The release of her
Just Doing Me, cd,
has generated quite
a "buzz"
in the European
Markets, Most notably
the hit song I've
got a Feeling garnering
her international
fame. Because of
her undying love
for and connection
to Can You Handle
It, Marilyn's Manager
suggested that she
record and include
both tracks on this
short, Club-Mix
Compilation...It's

Sadly, I report the death of
Producer/Guitarist, Rodney Brown, Writer & Producer
of Can You Handle It recorded by the late,
Sharon Redd and Check Out The Groove
recorded by Bobby Thurston. Rodney & the
Late, Wilie Lester's goal was to put Washington D. C. on the
map, following the path of Philadelphia International Producers, Kenney
Gamble & Huff. Together Brown and Lester gave myself and
Sasss our first professional, recording experience....for that,
I shall always be grateful.
A
very special thanks
to all of my fans
and supporters for
your continued support.
Especially
to my new European
and Japan
fan base abroad.
You have shown unbelievable
support for my new
Just Doing Me CD.
I have read
all of your
email's and requests
for a European Tour
and we're certainly
working on it for
2010.
Because
of you, this independently
released cd
is proving
to have staying
power with consistent
and increased digital
downloads and online
CD Sales. The inspirational
track 1 titled,
I've Got A
Feeling
and the soulful,
track 3 titled,
Anything (in
the world)
have received very
promising amounts
of downloads. This
2009 release is
crossing over into
2010 with endless
possilities. A very
special thank you
to Di-Lee, DJ Funk-O-Nots
and everyone who
have been very instrumental
in promoting my
music abroad.
In
a recent interview
I was asked "what
is the best part
about being a singer-songwriter
and recording artist"
I replied,
"drawing from
the inspiration
which inspires my
creations and realizing
how much my music
impacts others...not
to mention the endless
possibilities".
"Other
artists are always
looking for new
music to record".
"Movie
Producers features
music for
soundtracks.
Advertising and
Marketing Agencies
often incorporate
music with their
advertisements,
especially in TV
Commercials".
"Because
of this, there's
always the possibility
of my music being
picked up".
The
Washington Post's
favorable CD Review
wrote that
"Marilyn Ashford
Brown's music seems
almost tailored
made to suit her".
This Just
Doing Me CD
however, has music
that could easily
suit other industry
artists. For
Beyounce's
next CD, the
sassy, track 8 titled,
How Much
would be a great
fit for her sassy
voice and repertooire.
The soulful,
Track titled,
Anything (in the
world) makes
an easy fit for
Fantasia's upcoming
CD.
One
earlier inspirational
track from the 2007
Still Standing
CD titled, The
Jesus In Me
would make a
perfect fit
for Kirk Franklin's
contempoary style
and would have been
awesome for Whitney
Houston's comeback
cd. It's the
kind of song that
would have shined
on someone who has
faced so many trials
and tribulations.
Songs have been
re-recorded many
times by various
artists.. I believe
that Diane
Schurr would
be proud of my rendition
of her Louisiana
Sunday Afternoon
just as Earth, Wind
& Fire would
hopefully be proud
of my earlier rendition
of Can't Hide Love.
Yes, the possibilities
ARE endless especially
for 2010.
Without
your support I could
not do this... With
God, All Things
Are Possible.

Soul

2009 No matter what folks may have you believe, there is actually no such
thing as an ‘overnight success.' For every comedian who gets
that career-defining film cameo, there are others who are just as
hilarious and camera-ready still struggling in the clubs. For every
performer who's debut release hits number one, there are peers who are
equally as talented, yet don't get their shine until that well-produced
or better-promoted sophomore set. Exemplifying this reality is singer
and songwriter Marilyn Ashford Brown, whose third CD, Just Doing Me!, finally packages her gifts in the crisp, contemporary wrapping that they deserve. Click

Washington
Post September 2009 THE
WASHINGTON POST
SAYS "Marilyn
Ashford Brown isn't
the sort of R&B
vocalist who need
to rely on songwriters
for inspiration,
and her output almost
always seems tailor-made
to suit her talents
and capitalize
on her influences".
"In
the end, Ashford-Brown
covers a lot of
ground with personality
and assurance to
spare. Mike Joyce The Washington Post. Read full review.
The
U.K. loves Marilyn
Ashford Brown's
new CD, and she
loves them. The
"Still Standing"
CD sales took
her music
to faraway places
never imagined.
Such places
like the U.K. ,
Germany , Tokyo
, The UKraine
and Canada . It
appears that
her new, "Just
Doing Me" CD
will surpass it".
Is a
European Tour in
the future?
"The
CD Buzz" has
is that Recording
Artist, Marilyn
Ashford Brown has
one of the hottest
New Independent
CD Releases
for 2009). She's
making her own way
in the Recording
Industry by going
at it independently
and it's finally
pay off. After
years of knocking
on the doors of
record executives,
she's giving them
something to stop
and take notice.
Will
Music Mogul, Clive
Davis finally give
her the much anticipated
major distribution
deal that she's
so long prayed for?
Marilyn Ashford-Brown isn't at all moved or caught up in the glamour of
the business She just simply wants to sing, doing what she loves doing
more than anything else in the world. She once read a quote from actor,
Harrison Ford, which has stayed with her for many years. It stated:
"It's the people who get on the bus, and stay on it, who are
successful, not the ones who get off".Well, she has been on the bus for
almost three decades. The passengers who started the journey with her,
got off early, but, she stayed on, and the ride has been much too long
to turn back now.

Webmaster Colin Hughes Marilyn Ashford Brown Loves Elton
John, and aspires to someday record a duet with him and to hopefully someday do
a tour with him. She wants to re-record "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and
"Believe" as a duet with Elton.
Elton John, loves the voice and
music of Marilyn Ashford Brown, though he hasn't discovered it yet, he will
soon find out.
A
note to Elton John: Please don't let the sun go down in Washington, D. C.
without performing a duet with songstress, Marilyn Ashford Brown, a Native,
Washingtonian. You can email her at: marilynashfordbrown@yahoo.com
Susan Boyle and Marilyn Ashford
Brown have two things in common, they've been grossly overlooked by the
recording industry, but now is their season. Marilyn wishes Susan Boyle all the
success, and someday hope to meet her to share their life story.
Hopefully, Simon Cowell will give
Songstress, Marilyn Ashford Brown the same opportunity that he's giving to Susan
Boyle. Marilyn who resides in the U. S. A. is another undiscovered, great
talent. She has written a great song for Susan Boyle to sing titled: "Joy" and
plans to send it to Simon.
Buzz will be the word for Marilyn
Ashford Brown's upcoming New CD due for release next fall. There will be
something for everyone to love.
