Marilyn Ashford-Brown - Sassy Lady

Marilyn's new single SASSY LADY

I thank my Lord and Savoir, Jesus Christ for always keeping watch over both my family and I.  A very special thanks to Dexter Wansel and Cynthia Biggs for writing this incredibly, empowering song.  Dexter surprised me with a guest appearance (totally, unexpected), but so appreciated…Love that Dex affect synthesizer. Thanks also for your creative advice and direction. To all the musicians playing on this recording, thank you so much!  To my Producer, Derek Wille, you did it again…We make such a FANTASTIC team so you’re stuck with me, FOREVER!

The movie Forest Gump is one of my all time favorites.  One line from the movie that holds truth is that “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.” I took a temporary break from music to take care of me and now I’m back doing what I love so much…A very special thank you to my significant other Charles Fisher who played a major role in getting me back on track, thank you baby.

Marilyn Ashford-Brown

Marilyn Ashford-Brown has been inspired over the years by the music of the late, Phyllis Hyman. Very few know her story and connection to the legend. Marilyn once shared the stage with Ms. Hyman along with Pieces of A Dream. You Know How To Love Me is from Marilyn's forthcoming CD, which will be devoted to some of the greatest recordings of Ms. Hyman's career.

Can You Handle It was significant to Marilyn's professional recording career. It was originally recorded by Marilyn's former group Sasss, the lead vocal was later replaced by the Late, Sharon Redd and went on to become a huge hit. During 1980, Sasss had just completed recording the track and was heading to the U.K. with Bobby Thurston for a tour to promote You've Got What It Takes, also a huge hit. Marilyn would go on to work with Producers, Dexter Wansel and Al Johnson.

Marilyn sings for Barack Obama

Marilyn Ashford-Brown has always dreamed of performing with an Orchestra, but never would have imagined that she would do it by sharing the same stage with a presidential contender.  In 2008, she received an invitation to perform during the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Dinner in Washington D. C. at the D. C.Convention Center. The special guest speaker of the evening would be non other than Candidate, Barack Obama.

Shortly after her performance accompanied by the Clarence Knight Orchestra, the now President Barack Obama and our beautiful First Lady Michelle appeared on stage.
